Default Orlando down to Miami across the everglades then back up through Tampa

I birded with a friend last weekend. Here's some of my favorite photos from the trip...

The first three are on my "to do" list...

    Purple Gallinule

    Fulvous Whistling Duck

    Black-bellied Whistling Duck

    Florida Scrub Jay

    Spot-breasted Oriole

    Burrowing Owl

    Limpkin

Not a good photo but one of the birds I really wanted to get...Crested Caracara...these were the only two I saw in four days...

Kind'a boring but a way out of range Tropical Kingbird

One of the neatest wild birds I've ever seen - they've got a ton of personality - Smooth-billed Ani

Oh, the last one if from South Carolina - a way out of range Scissor-tailed Flycatcher - a Texas bird that is nesting with a girl friend at the Rock Hill airport...

    Great stuff.

The caracaras and burrowing owls have been around the Okeechobee area for a long time.
Be proactive about improving public waterfowl habitat in South Carolina. It's not going to happen by itself, and our help is needed. We have the potential to winter thousands of waterfowl on public grounds if we fight for it.

No purple swamp hens? We need to put in for a couple lottery hunts in Florida and get you a few more species knocked off the list! My son needs the whistling and tree duck as well.

Love the purple gallinule and the caracaras!!
Living in Moncks Corner but looking forward to moving back to the West Coast in 2020 where there are more ducks and less duck hunters!! LOL

    Happy belated birthday, Ring King.

I'm not a birder, but I liked the Scrub Jay and Spot-Breasted Oriole. Cool birds, and great photos Rubberhead.

I saw several Purple Swamphens around Miamai but didn't get good close-up photos. A purple swamphen showed up in Cape Romain last year so I guess they'll be banal before too long. (BTW - I've never heard of the word "banal" until about 3 minutes ago - my wife was doing some word puzzle and read the definition to me)

I still hold out hope for a South Carolina Black-bellied but I think I will have to travel to get the fulvous.

Good stuff. But no pics of the Love bugs?

I think I chased those birds but never saw them. One was reported in Congaree several years back and on the upper end of the Catawba about 15 years ago. I never saw either bird. They're trash birds south of Lake Okeechobee.

Ha ha - it was bad - my friend's car was a total black/orange mess. I don't think Gorilla Glue holds a candle to a pair of mashed love bugs.

They hung out in our Refuge for 2 days. Like the Hawk Owl, I can't imagine what brought them to that spot.
