We wrapped up my oldest boy’s first season on Strom Thurmond’s shotgun team Saturday at the SCTP Skeet and Sporting Clays State Championship tournament at Palmetto Shooting Complex. We had a blast with this team all year. Had some good days and bad but wrapped it up on an incredibly high note.
Brady won HOA in Skeet with an 89, and shot a 90 in Sporting Clays and won HOA in a shootoff on the 5 stand. They shot 8 pair in front of a big crowd before Brady edged him out on the last pair. I was real proud of both of em. Lotta pressure for two 13 year old kids and they both handled it well.
To top all that off, he shot a 78 in the state trap tournament last weekend. That score combined with Skeet and Sporting won him the belt buckle for the best combined overall score in his division as well. Not a bad way to wrap up his first season.
Big thanks to Gander for the instruction, we’re looking forward to taking it to the next level with your help bud. If I may give him a plug here, he is top notch. You can spend all the money you want on shells, shotguns, and practice rounds, but if you’re not getting quality coaching and instruction you’re pissin in the wind.
If you’ve been thinking about getting your kids involved in shotgun sports, now is a great time to get with your school or a local club and start planning for next season. My youngest will join him this fall when they start back up. I’m already looking forward to it.
