GREENVILLE COUNTY, S.C. —

A 26-year-old man is facing charges after deputies found an elaborate series of tunnels on a 4-acre property where stolen goods, including heavy construction equipment, transport trailers, vehicles, power tools and construction material were hidden, deputies say.

Greenville County Sheriff’s Office investigators following up on leads about stolen property went to 617 Looperville Road in Piedmont on Tuesday.

After getting search warrants, deputies spent two days searching the property where they uncovered a “sophisticated network of underground tunnels” that were being used to conceal more than $200,000 in property stolen throughout the Upstate and the Midlands.

Deputies arrested Timothy Glenn Painter, 26, on a grand larceny charge and eight counts of receiving stolen goods.

Investigators are working to contact victims to return property.

Painter is being held in the Greenville County Detention Center with bond set at $133,400.

Deputies said they expect additional charges as they continue their investigation
