Congrats on your first bird. It doesn't matter that it doesn't have a full fan and you're trying to make it appear as such...

My urge to run and gun has nothing to do with lack of comfort...ADD is a bitch! I will, without fail, convince myself that I can get closer, can be in a better spot, can blah blah blah...if only I’d move. I’ve been just successful enough doing that to
keep screwing myself. Having to call birds off adjacent property and across wide open spaces I couldn’t sneak across has made me realize that they usually will come to you if you have a bit of patience. It’s still hard for me to do!

It may just be the way you're holding the fan with your fingers that makes it look like a jake fan. Hard to say. Did he have spurs? If so, he's a gobbler. If not, he's a jake. Either way, congrats on your first bird. That's a long time to be patient and keep trying.

If it is a Jake, there is no shame in killing a Jake for your first bird. Congrats!

The bird was a Jake. I shot it knowing it was a jake...and I am damn proud of it to get that first one. Bird weighed 16 pounds... it was a Jake. Buddy of mine called it a super jake... but yes it was still a Jake. The fan is full though.

Ain't a thing wrong with a Jake. Congratulations. Hell I might shoot one tomorrow and post it on here just because I can.

Congrats again homie. I'll never admit to being a turkey hunter because of the way most act. But killing them is about as much fan as you can have with your britches on!
