Your hunch may prove to be correct, because it is one hell of a fire...

The Elites don't fear the tall nails, government possesses both the will and the means to crush those folks. What the Elites do fear (or should fear) are the quiet men and women, with low profiles, hard hearts, long memories, and detailed target folders for action as they choose.

Sad. Not a thing they can do to stop it.

That thing has survived two world wars and, I believe, all seven crusades. I guess all good things must come to an end at some point.

And somewhere a Mullah is praising Allah for the destruction of this old infidel church.

That will make a nice spot for a new mosque.

From what I can tell, they need to bring in the excavators and get busy ripping that thing down to the dirt. 900 year old wood burns hot and I doubt the masonry/stone will be in good enough shape to go forward on the rebuild. Praying that they can save some of it anyway...

It looked like it was under construction of some sort. Did it not look like scaffolding all around it? Ole Frenchy smokin' too many cigarillos

Imagine being the minimum wage guy using an angle grinder, when you should have been using bolt cutters, that started the fire, that but down the most famous cathedral on the planet.

This is horrible. Visiting there was surreal. Paris is a dirty city but it has some beautiful landmarks and countryside.
