    So did I, but I’d bet there are guys here who didn’t realize there were even two different designs.

    A push reed provides better top end sound and is beginner friendly
    A controlled reed allows for better low end sound such as in "taps" but can stick with heavy saliva.

    I've used both in my bugle (Rexcraft) and prefer neither
