    Default Powerhead Swap

Has anyone done this before? Debating if this something I can try to handle on my own or if it is worth just taking it somewhere. I typically do my own outboard maintenance but worried this might be over my head.
    Engine is a 2 stroke OMC V4.

    Thank you

Easy if you have mechanical skills. If it's a full swap, loosen the powerhead bolts and lift off, sits on a splined shaft.

Remove the lower unit first or else you will fight against the splines binding against the crankshaft. Aside from any seized bolts it’s pretty straight forward

Easy as long as the bolts around the base of the powerhead aren't corroded up and ring off on you.

Great news it’s not as bad as I am thinking, I guess I’m just overthinking this. I’ve been pretty good about keeping my bolts clean and greased so hopefully no surprises there getting them off.

Before I go buy new / build them does anyone have a shop crane or engine stand I could buy for this as I don’t see a lot of future use to warrant buying new.

If you have to, buy a cheap cherry picker/hoist from Harbor Freight, swap your powerhead and then sell the cherry picker on craigslist or on here and get your money back for it

I've got a lift in Columbia. If I can get it back from the guy that's been borrowing for six months you can hold it.

Thank you all for the offers but I went ahead and bought one yesterday.
Hopefully I will get the donor motor today and start the process.

Well got the donor engine home, lower unit off, all exhaust housing bolts off with out braking anything.
I just spent the last few hours going at it with pry bars and playing beat it with a hammer but cannot get the power head off.
I can see all the way through the exhaust housing but still can't get it off. Is there anything i might be missing here as it seems to be caught up near the steering arm somewhere.

The gasket will be hard to break lifting straight up, need to pry from side. There are also videos on Google that may help you.

this.....don't hammer and beat on or pry until you have them all out
Usually one or two coming up from the bottom. Very common to miss one under the front
Get online and find the parts diagram that shows them all

Finally got it off, I was missing a bolt and felt like an idiot when I finally found it.
Now new seals, water pump and paint then reinstall.

If anyone wants any parts off the old 150 powerhead they are free before I scrap it all.

    PM sent.
Meant to say I do not think it is rebuildable but some parts should still be good.
