It's springtime. You can put the wool gloves up now.

There’s not a lot out there that is more peaceful than pitching flies to farm pond bream late in the evening.
Be proactive about improving public waterfowl habitat in South Carolina. It's not going to happen by itself, and our help is needed. We have the potential to winter thousands of waterfowl on public grounds if we fight for it.

Bead heads are the magic on my pond, especially as a dropper under a foam cricket.

I use several bead chain styles and wet fly patterns when they start bedding for much bigger fish. The midge fishing is more about hitting the target on the rise forms and the fish seem to fight harder, just go nuts when they get the hook. Makes me giggle and feel like a kid. Guess that's what I was trying to present here, little fish but way fun.

    Great times!

What weight line and leader/tippet are you using for the bream? I've never fished for them (with a fly rod).

5w with a 7-9' tapered leader and 5x tippet mostly. I'll run the 5x and longer tippet on the midges but shorten it and use 4x floro when I start using the bead chain glitter getter flies. The floro gets the glitter getters down quicker and is very abrasion resistant, don't have to retie as much when you have to rip the fly out of the bushes or grass if you cast too long. The shorter 7' leader will help peg a cast up under overhanging limbs too. It's all about point A to B on ponds and no worries on drift and bellying lines.
