Catch some rains while you’re there.

Delta in a nutshell: Breeding grounds + small wetlands + big blocks of grass cover + predator removal + nesting structures + enough money to do the job= plenty of ducks to keep everyone smiling!

Maybe 20 - 30 feet... These animals for the most part are accustomed to human presence.

Non-stop from JFK to Nairobi - we caught a hell of a tailwind coming over and made it in just over 12 hours. It's normally 14. I hope that doesn't mean 16 going back. But an exit row seat on a 787 is a wonderful thing.

I misspoke … those are both impala young. I don't know where the gazelle came from in my head. But, yeah, in the open country, a young Thompson's is like a menhaden, and an impala fawn is like a finger mullet in brush country.

Thanks for all the nice remarks. I'm still over here, and with slow internet at times. I'll likely wait until I get back for the in depth stuff. It's been a great visit. My niece and her husband are living here in Nairobi so we've had very nice living arrangements (and security). I may throw some other pics up later. I found that I have something on my sensor that requires me to clean up that spot on some pics. I'm going to try to get that fixed when I get back.

I can't say I didn't look at some massive Cape buffalo and think about shot placement.

Species seem in the wild so far (either at Maasai Mara or Nairobi NP)

    Impala
    Thompson's gazelle
    Grant's gazelle
    Wildebeest (not many)
    Coke's hartebeest
    Topi
    Eland
    Giraffe
    Elephant
    Cape Buffalo
    Dik Dik
    Hippos
    Hyenas
    Baboons
    Vervet monkeys
    Jackals
    Striped mongoose
    White rhinos
    Waterbuck
    Lions
    Leopard
    Genet (I forget which species)
    Warthogs
    Crocodiles
    Zebras

    I probably forgot something.

Waking up at 5:00 AM to the sound of crashing limbs next to the tent, shining the flashlight out, and seeing an elephant at 10 feet was interesting.

    At least I'm housebroken.
