Default Radiant floor heating in concrete?

Coming up on the pour for my home in a few weeks hopefully. I have a bunch of 100 ft rolls of pex laying around so I thought about looping it through my slab. I ain’t gonna have the coin to buy the boiler right off the bat and may never go that route but I’d like to have that option. Need someone who has experience in doing this to give me some ideas on how to do this

We did it on a energy efficient shop/house we built back in high school.

Had SIP panels for the wall and roof with rsdisnt floor heating. I don't remember s lot of details about it but I cal talk to my old boss and find out whatever specifics you're looking for

You can run one big loop , or have it zoned( separate loops off a manifold w/ valves at each loop. There are solar options for the heating part.

The ones I’ve done go in after the plastic and wire. No joints under the slab. Pin it with j- spikes.

If your foundation plan calls for a 4” slab, how does this work with the pex? I’m thinking 1” pex sitting in what should be a 4” slab could be a issue?

I’ve never used pex, some other brand of tubing made specially for that application. Can’t remember the name off hand but I can find out if needed. What we used was 1/2” I.D. , 3/4” O.D. We ran it center line of slab. No issues that I know of. Some of it has been in for twenty plus years. Is 1” the O.D. of what you have?

Need more slab. One thing I realized when I built my shop is the red iron crowd doesn’t call for near enough concrete in their foundations. My dads neighbor is a structural engineer and he ran the wind load calcs on what they called for and said no way it would stand up to cat 1. My piers ended up being 3x bigger to make sure it would stay put. They called for 1x1x1 piers, we dug 3x3x2.5.

I believe you are over thinking this part.

What strutnbps said. There are a several how to videos on YouTube. If I didn’t think I was ever going to use it, not sure I would go through the trouble of doing it.

Not sure what the pipe looks like under the pavement but we Heat the concrete in our freezer at work with glycol and heat the glycol with ammonia.
