Delta in a nutshell: Breeding grounds + small wetlands + big blocks of grass cover + predator removal + nesting structures + enough money to do the job= plenty of ducks to keep everyone smiling!

So Chief is doing great, but about half the time he's dropping the bumper about 5 feet before he gets to me. Real hit or miss.
Y'all keep in mind he's never going to be a trial dog. It's not that he can't, it's just that's not my intent. Chief will be a meat dog plain and simple.
Any tips? Or should I just continue with positive reinforcement and get him some more reps until he gets the picture?
He's still has a tendency to break too. I can typically call his name loud enough to get his attention mid stride and he'll stop then I call him back to heel. Then when I say his name to give him the command to retrieve he pauses. Like he's confused. And he might be.
Again I'm thinking continued positive reinforcement and some more time he'll be fine.
