    Default House sewer/main drain inspection

I have a recurring blockage in house sewer under front yard. I think it's all 4" PVC, maybe not. I'm assuming tree roots collecting paper because I'm able to clear it with a drain bladder on old garden hose. I run the same length of hose down the clean-out each time before reaching the blockage.

Better idea to just dig at the correct distance from the clean-out (in line with street side clean-out) and replace bad section or hire someone with a camera to check the whole line first?

Other possible causes if not roots?

Any sponsors do this type of work? Other recommendations?

Location is Forest Acres area of Columbia.

If you were here I could get you TV'd and then you could go from there.

If its all pvc then the best is to dig up and repair.

Depending on when home was built it could and probably is clay, cast or orangeburg pipe with a PVC cleanout

I've got a guy with a plumbing camera that can look at it for you. If you want PM me your contact info and I'll relay it to him.

I remember in college one Thanksgiving or Christmas break we had a root ball in the drain at my parents house. My dad and I chased it from the house to the street trying to locate the blockage. We finally found it under some river birch trees. They were cut down shortly after. We ended up replacing almost the whole run since we had most of it uncovered and in the open.

The whole time I was digging the ditch I knew there had to be a better way. Get a camera for sure.

Thanks, Johnny Reb. Your man was at the house in less than an hour and had me all fixed up before supper.

Camera showed tree roots half way to the street. He marked the spot and showed the depth as 1 foot. A little digging discovered some idiot had broken off a clean-out, laid a brick over the opening and buried it. Easy access for roots. Roots removed and capped the hole properly. Problem solved. Took a look at the rest of the line while the camera was in and should be good to go.
