Default High tide: tell me what you guys think about it.

Hey guys new to the forum, and new to high tides. Tell me what I need to know and what I need to look for in this boat. Also I know that’s a long shaft motor, but is that a short transom? I’m looking to buy this boat so I don’t have hands on it just yet. It’s a 16 foot and that’s a 50 Merc. I like the tiller don’t care for consoles.

Soft spots in the floor and getting rid of that black anchor hanging off the back!

Rofl! Yeah not really a big Mercury fan either, but it’s a good start. Thought about trying to do some bartering this summer.

That’s a short transom on that HT. Get some better pictures. Pull a tape on it and make sure it’s a 16ft. They also made 15 and 14s that looked similar. There appears to be tan paint overspray on the trailer- has it been repainted? What year is boat. They had wood in them and could have soft spots.

14 and 15 didn’t have bow hatches like that I don’t believe...I could be wrong though

I have the 16 with a center console. It is the best multi purpose boat for my use on the coast and will never get rid of it. Have a 90 Yamaha on mine and happy with it. The tiller steer will be an awesome setup

The boat is in Georgetown at the moment but hopefully will be up here around lake Wateree this weekend. It was a white center console and he removed the console and painted it tan with Parker’s duck boat paint. It’s a 2004 16’02”. By the looks of it that motor is a long shaft and the transom looks cut short. But at the same time the cavitation plate looks like it will line up with the bottom. The guy I’m buying it from says that’s the motor that was on it from the dealers.

If that is the motor that came from the dealer how did he run a center console? Is the tiller handle after market?

Yeah it’s an aftermarket big tiller from mercury. You can still see the pipe coming out of the floor where the center console used to be.

That is a 20" transom...the 1602 transom looks like a short shaft 1503 transom due to higher gunnel height.

She'll run good as a tiller....had one with a 90 on it, miss it every day.

But at the same time I’m not even sure Marshall’s marine sold high tide?

Thanks for the help man. That’s the info I was looking for.

And I would like to have that facotor glass semi gloss look what kind of tan or green paint do you guys recommend to memmick the factory high tide paint?

This is why I made this account. I typically do my scouting on the water by myself but I knew you guys were the most knowledgeable about these boats and our habitat in South Carolina

Fiberglass boats have gelcoat not paint. If you want factory you gotta spray gel, otherwise stick with whatever paint it’s got and enjoy the boat. Also don’t listen to anyone that talks bad and about those motors, they’re one of the more sought after

And from the looks of the pic, that motor needs to come up a couple of holes....

I know the motors are good motors my dad had 3 or 4 of that generation mercur and I have a 2004 115 on the back of a 20 foot bay boat I wouldn’t want to just get rid of it because it’s black, I just prefer the 3 cyl Yamaha.

And Fish you say it needs to be raised up a couple holes, you don’t think it’s sitting extremely too low do you?
