    Default private trophy water fishing

A friend of mine has been asking me to go fish north GA. It's a pay to fish place. From what I understand they're all stocked fish. BIG fish. Questions.. are these stocked fish equal to wild, in terms of fight, color, etc? Are they fed, or living from native groceries in the water? What is the general consensus on the ethics of this, by most fly-fisherman?

I don't fish often, only when hunting season is out, or I am at the beach. I would much rather go to remote NC mountain spot, camp and catch brooks, or a wild brown.

do i think it would be fun? yes. Would i pay for it? no. Would i go if someone invited and paid for me? yes. Would i post pictures all over the interwebs of the big fish I caught? no, that is like bragging about going to a strip club.

The fish can be tough to catch. Some streams feed all year, others just feed during certain times of the year. THe closest thing to wild trout, private stream fish, that i have done is the DRO's private water on the davidson.

I've done it twice. It's kinda like putt-putt. While you're playing, you're having a good time and all, but you know it isn't golf. It's just a game.

YBTX- I'm guessing you're talking about The Soque? Not much different than a kick & shoot quail day at a preserve, any NC Delayed Harvest water, a tower pheasant shoot, shooting corn-fed pen ducks, or any other pay-to-play stocker deal, etc... The fish are well fed, and they do get BIG. No comparison to wild fish in the mountains. That being said, if you want to go pull on some big trout with your buddy, go knock it out. They raise some giant fish there. Place/fishery gets knocked because of the multitude of Instagram/FaceBook douche-bag look-at-me braggerts that act like they caught something unique or special with their otherworldly fishing prowess...

Yes it is and don’t let anyone tell you any different.
Be proactive about improving public waterfowl habitat in South Carolina. It's not going to happen by itself, and our help is needed. We have the potential to winter thousands of waterfowl on public grounds if we fight for it.
