    Default Planting a dove field

OK. Its wet. I get that...

But if you were putting a "planting guide" together, what would be your target date to have sunflowers in the ground.
Midlands area...but post your date if you are east of I95 or in the upstate, for comparison.

I am of the opinion that you need your sunflowers READY (meaning defoliated and drying) weeks before the season opens.

    Go.
Ugh. Stupid people piss me off.

I plant mid April here in Williamsburg County. I don’t like spraying sunflowers with Roundup to kill them before season. I think they stand longer letting sunflowers dry out on their on. Just my opinion.

My farm is in the Pee Dee. I have had successful sunflower fields with planting dates ranging from mid March to mid April. The calendar is not the important thing the soil temperature and your weather conditions are. For me the earlier dates get better canopies blocking out weeds and produce large healthy stalks so your flowers will last all 3 seasons. The flowers are completely dry by mid August and then I can spray to have a clean field for opening day.

I like to plant in mid-April. Lee & Kershaw Counties. Seems like the rains come pretty well in April and early May and then it gets dry and hot in June. I also like to be the first field that is finished. Helps to hold early birds, or so it seems.

    Thank you Sir!
Always hunted doves over a freshly cut corn field or such but going to have a dedicated
patch this year for the first time.
