Default NC Sending Turkeys To Texas

I figured Texas had a strong population of turkeys. Especially with three subspecies Rio Grande, Merriam's, and Eastern.

Would it make you a socialist if you shot a transplanted turkey on private land?

SCDNoR should have bought these to replace the ones they sold years ago for $800.00 each.

Not easterns, alot of counties with them are closed to hunting them. They are treated entirely different than Rios. Only 1 tag per yr and about half the counties that have them are closed to hunting. No feeders either

Buddy of mine moved to Centerville Texas. No turkeys within an 1 1/2 hours in any directions. Too many hogs.

There's a pretty large void between Eastern's ranges and Rio ranges in Texas. When I lived in College Station, it was the same way. Couple hours from any turkeys in any direction. I had some customers there who had some large acreage and they worked with TPWD and NWTF to get turkeys stocked on their land and tried Rios and Easterns at different times and neither made it. Easterns are an uphill battle there too.

And I don't buy for a minute that there are any Merriam's in Texas. Maybe a cunt-hairs worth of hybrids with Rios on the NM line in the NW corner of the panhandle, but I'd have to see a genetic test to believe it.

Has your buddy checked due east of him about 45 miles yet? I've been told that there's barely some huntable numbers there.

He's been focusing on killing hogs for landowners in exchange deer hunting rights.

Not much of a turkey hunter anyways, but said I wouldn't like it.
