    Default Pintail call

A few weeks ago, a friend and I were in a rice field watching ducks come in after shooting hours. There were tons of pintail circling and landing. They sometimes make a certain noise that I've only ever heard when they circle and are in really close and about to land. My buddy looked at me and asked what was that. He had never heard it before. It's an almost electronic sound, kind of high pitched. Not the typical rolling peep you can hear from far away. Has anyone have any good sound bytes of this call. I was trying to explain it to someone.

You can mimic it with a mallard call if you can roll your tongue right

When in doubt, shoot him again!

Work like it's all up to me, but pray, like it's all up to him!

HEAD’s video is covered in it, but you may not notice it.

It’s the drake wood duck sound you hear throughout the video.

Yes it almost sounds like a drake wood duck. The sound. I'm sure it's the hens like he said. I've heard several groups of pintails making this noise. I guess it was just surprising, as I've never heard big groups here like I do out west. Mainly because there are no big groups around my area.

It’s not the hens. It’s the drakes, and they only do it during courtship.

You will hear them do it during the last 2 weeks of duck season on most years.

The hen call that Relentlous is talking about is done throughout the winter.
