Default Plantation in Ridgeland ends dog driving

The plantation owners cite changing trends and it will be still hunting only. There will be plenty of memberships available. Mucho big bucks, plenty of does and the plantation provides corn. Great clubhouse, bathrooms, deer cooler, camper spots with power and water.

Edited to remove club info at their request. My apologies.

If it's true it's a damn shame, fine group of folks and I actually bought the house of a legendary member who drove down there from providence every Saturday. Sad.

Between PETA and crybaby still hunting clubs probably see more and more clubs eliminating dog hunting

Dog hunting*. Hope no one uses dogs for retrieving other game species.

Members were blindsided, they found out yesterday. I've hunted down there and they have been doing it right for decades and had strict rules involving social media and their way of doing things. There aren't many dog clubs that can claim the history of good hope, I figured they'd be able to hang on until the end.

It is a managed quail plantation and a beautiful place, what a shame for the tradition to be gone.

Whackum- I agree, I thought we would be there for my youngest grandson to hunt there.

So, this group leased the deer hunting rights, and the land owner made the decision to no longer allow dog hunting?
Them that don't know him won't like him, and them that do sometimes won't know how to take him

He ain't wrong, he's just different, and his pride won't let him do things to make you think he's right

correct- they still hold the deer hunting rights, just can't run dogs any more. Many members were there for the opportunity to run dogs and won't re-join just for still hunting, I'm one. I have 2500 acres to hunt and fish right by my house plus my own land- not driving 50 miles to still hunt.

What was main reason for the landowner taking dog hunting rights from members?

    Complaints with neighbors?
    Killing smaller bucks?
    Complaints from other members?
    Destroying land?

None of those would apply to this group.

That's a shame. I have hunted there 8 or 9 times as a guest over the years and always had a great, safe time. If they weren't dog hunting the right way, then nobody is! Always felt safe, organized, and well run with zero chance of dogs getting off the club onto neighboring property. Last hunt I had there 4 years ago, I was blessed to kill a calico 9 point that the drivers on horseback jumped up and ran right to me. I hate that the tradition is over there.

The old saying "if you don't own it you will eventually get screwed" is fact when dealing with hunting clubs. Hate to hear this.
