    Default Budget Glass

I know the words don’t necessarily go together but anything I get will be an upgrade from what I have. On my .270 I’m still running a tasco that was on it when I got it for Christmas in 1996 or so. And my 7mm08 has the cheap scope that came on it from savage. Never really cared about it much until western hunts have started to become a reality. I would like to think that all shots would be 400 yards and under. I would love to stay in the $500 range if I could but could possibly go up to $1000 if I had to. What’s the word on SWFA? They seem to come up as a reliable budget scope that fits the $500 budget. I’m ignorant when it comes to scopes so all help is appreciated.

What features should I look at and or stay away from? MOA vs mil? And anything else you can think of...

    Thanks fellas.

I'm selling a NF SHV 4-14X50 F1 soon. I just haven't taken pics or put it up yet though. Got the box and everything, if you're near Gtown any, you're welcome to take it for a spin, it's currently on my 7mm08.

    I'm liquidating some stuff, want a S&B Polar 4-16X56 FFP L7.
Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn't go so far as to call a dog filthy but they're definitely dirty. But, a dog's got personality. Personality goes a long way.

Or if you want to stay under $500, get a Weaver Super Slam.

There was a new Leupold VX-R listed in the tp for $550. I have the same scope, and am very pleased with it.

Salty, shoot me a PM and let me know about the scope. I can meet you in GT and buy you a beer. About to pull the trigger on a trijicon but could go NF.

What jws posted all day. An every day Leupold will serve your purposes at those distances. For me, when I doubt, I go Leupold.

I’m looking at selling a Swarovski or two if those interest you, a 4-12x50 with the BR reticle, for sure, and maybe a 3-10x42. They are lighter weight than just about any other and equal or are a step above in optics than others under $1000, IMO.

Fwiw, I’m keeping two other Swaros and a Kahles, along with several Bushnells (3200, 4200, and a new Elite model). Just have too many scopes vs rifles.

Edited for the $500 price range.
Vortex Razors are very good scopes. Quality and reliability falls off very quickly after that. I’ve got a PST Gen 2 I bought to go on a trainer, same reticle as Razor, but I haven’t had much time behind it.
If you want to stay in the $500 range, the VX3 listed is a solid choice and I’m seeing that scope for $499 a lot of places. I’ve had a 3-10 and a 4.5-14 VX3 since the line came out that have been rock solid and killed a bunch of game. I would hunt anything anywhere with either and not feel undergunned.
A serious long range scope with good glass, good tracking, adjustable parallax, zero stop, and a good mil or moa reticle will cost you a good bit north of $500. About 3x that for a serious contender.

I have 2 Diamondback HP's and they are just as good as the Leupold VX3 that I have IMO

The VX-3i is a quality all-around scope. Simple and bright. Very similar to the Mark 4.
