The photo I took on Sunday afternoon...in case anyone knows the spot. It was near high tide but she was feeding on an oyster bed that is exposed on most low tides.

Very cool. Thanks for sharing I’ve never killed a goldeneye, now I’m wondering if Ive seen them and just assumed they were buffleheads? I killed the only eider I’ve ever seen ever seen about 10 years ago in NC. I thought it was a big scoter till I had it in hand.

RH - again great work and appreciate you sharing it with us! I chased a Goldeneye on a piedmontl lake for about 2.5 weeks last year and didn’t get it done. It was a challenge but fun. I did find and kill a hen Surf Scoter on that same lake this year. It was the oddest hunt. I bagged a Drake gadwall, Drake ringneck and hen surf scoter. Thanks again for sharing!

I've killed two surf scoters. The drake was first and I killed him along with a hen black scoter.

The amazing thing is that, similar to you, I killed a gadwall, ruddy duck and bluebill the same hunt as the hen surf scoter...

Thanks and thanks for the inspiration. Stay tuned, though, two maybe three more then it gets really, really tough.

    What's next...in order of likelyhood...

    Old squaw,
    Black-bellied Whistling Duck,
    Common Merganser,
    King Eider,
Harlequin Duck (photo only but in the decoys, in a huntable spot and during the season),
    Cinnamon Teal,
    Fulvous Whistling Duck, then
    Barrow's Goldeneye.

I’d say the likelihood would go more than likely in this order

    Black Belly
    Oldsquaw
(These 2 are a coin toss in the order. I’d say the earlier in the season the more likely it will be the BBWD. The later and colder then it’s definitely the Oldsquaw)

    Common Merganser
    Fulvous
    Cinnamon
    Barrows GE
    King Eider
    Harlequin

Just my opinion but those last three will be unlikely. I would have said the last four but well you know

When in doubt, shoot him again!

Work like it's all up to me, but pray, like it's all up to him!

I remember that...he's a very unhuntable duck...do they head south like the BBWD or stay in the same place all year?

Man, I wish we still had the early October season...

Ha - "unlikely" is not a strong enough word...not near strong enough. Darn near impossible, maybe.

As you and Gobbler know, a beautiful cinnamon was killed on a private club in the ACE this year.

    Good luck Rubberhead.
Be proactive about improving public waterfowl habitat in South Carolina. It's not going to happen by itself, and our help is needed. We have the potential to winter thousands of waterfowl on public grounds if we fight for it.

    Cool story bro!
