    Default Quail

They out smarted us this afternoon. Ran the dogs for just a couple of hours. Found one covey that ran into the thickest briar patch I have seen in a while. Dogs would point, then relocate, then relocate again and again. We did this for 30 minutes before we moved on. At one point, I was standing on top of briars so thick I was still 3 feet above the ground. A pack of angry beagles would have been more useful.

No quail were harmed in this exercise. Dogs and humans were not so lucky.

Any time spent chasing a hunting dog is time well spent.

Depends. For about a year my lab became obsessed with digging out. I don’t consider all the time I spent retrieving him, well spent.

I’ve got a covey in a cotton field I always run up with the hi boy. I know what’s coming but it still makes me smile when they flush.

Last weekend we got a covey of about 20 birds which was the biggest that I have seen in a couple of years. Didn’t get a shot off. Saw where they went but never saw them again. The dogs never hit their trail. Pretty much a mystery especially since my friend has a GSP that is excellent in finding weak scent.

If it ain\'t accurate at long distance, then the fact that it is flat shooting is meaningless.

They all have track shoes these days. Flush, fly, land, and run run run. Tomorrow should be a good day to hunt if the wind does not get up too strong.

Flushed up a big covey this morning while squirrel hunting, 15-20 birds.
Got off one shot but missed and we flushed up several singles over the next few hundred yards

Just saw a covey of 8 or so. Wish I had the dog with me to at least see the point and flush.
