I've had some really good burgers at Rutledge...cooked to what I ordered. Monday at lunch they have a $5 special on burgers. A crowd of us would decent on the
place and I was amazed that they could keep the orders straight and deliver the variety of rare, medium rare...all the way to well done burgers to the table at the same time. None of us ever complained.

My employees like to go for the Monday lunch special. I've had some med rare orders be very well done. Some days it's pretty good. My original point was that Charleston has some unique options. I don't see Rutledge as being one of them.

CM and Cliff wasn't it? If I recall correctly I owed them around $150.00 in the first week they let me go on credit. That was in the late 80's

    Yessir....

When I used to live downtown, I was there at least once a week easy....burger and/or a slice of pie. When they closed that down and made it a Starbucks, late 90's and moved to WAsh, it's just not the same...

Equally as sad of a day, was when Mr Al sold the grocery....end of an era!

Food got one star in its Post and Courier review. Thought that might be generous from the one time we ate there. Neat space and worth checking out the bar, though.

And Squeaky's didn't care either...long before the Blue Dogs, there was just the Futch Bros playing at Squeaky's...good Lord-a-mighty at the scattered a$$ that was in that place on the regular....

Since no on has mentioned Magnolia's, then Magnoila's. If you go to any of those joints on the water or market (with few exceptions), you're paying to eat crap food with a bunch of Ohioans. I also like Peninsula Grill and Charleston Grill. Good luck.

Start at Darling Oyster Bar and just eat and drink your way up Upper King until you get to Rodney Scott's and finish the night there. 16 OZ beers and BBQ after being saturated with booze and BBQ and you'll sleep like a baby.

Peninsula has been a favorite of mine for years, but has underwhelmed the last 2 times. Langdon's and Wood and Grain are also very good
