    Default Digiscoping with a dslr

Digiscoping- is using a spotting scope and a camera together. Basically the spotting scope is used as a lens for the camera. So you can take close up pictures of targets far away.

I have been thinking about getting a spotting scope and was wondering if anyone has tinkered with this. If so fill me in.

Familiar with digiscoping. What's the dslr reference about?

I saw a contraption that would let you hook your cellphone up to a spotting scope to take pics.

since millennials have never seen a stand alone camera.

I have a great spotting scope for sale in the tp. I use an iphone mount on it and basically do the same thing.
I take an PLB in the shower with me. Can't ever be too safe.

DSLR is a digital camera. The setup looks like this. This is cheaper than buying a $3000+ camera lens that will do the same thing. 9BBFC99E-2384-4D3D-AE77-BD1DD3FD9CF9.jpg

Girl I went to college with does photography and she bought a setup very similar to that for the eclipse. It worked like a charm.

As far as what she has, I have no clue.

Just imagine how silly all those professional photographers are going to feel when they find out they have been spending thousands of dollars for unnecessary lenses that this simple adapter will duplicate.

Quality glass is quality glass. A quick google tells me that a comparable scope to a Canon lens is about the same price...

I bought a digiscope adapter for my DSLR (Nikon 5100) and sent it back. Tripod head wouldn't lock down as the camera was too heavy. Bought a cell phoneskope for my cell phone and sent it back. Didn't like it at all as it was bulky and didn't work without having to take my phone out of it's case (Samsung Galaxy). Ended up making my own out of PVC sewer pipe that I had in the garage using a heat gun and hacksaw...works like a champ with my cell phone in a case, cheap, and I could lose it with no worries! Spray painted it brown and it is super durable with no moving parts. Use 2 of my daughters ponytail holders to "strap" my phone into it and JB welded the outer pipe that slides right over my spotter eyepiece. Used it in Wyoming and Illinois the last 2 years. I used a scrap 2x6 to form the corner bends...super easy to do.
