    Default silencers

Why are silencers and noise suppressors so expensive?

Because pillows and potatoes start getting expensive, but it's just supply and demand.look at the AR,the prices are down and availability is up.

I haven’t looked at prices lately but 3-4 years ago you could Form 1 one for around $150 plus the stamp. If they would remove them from the NFA crap you could buy them over the counter for $300.

Look into Rebel silencers. People have been buying them pretty heavily lately, still gotta wait on the stamp....

When I become king, they'll come with the gun just like choke tubes.

The only reason they are practically illegal is from the Hollywood image of them only being used in mob hits. Same as switchblades. People have been indoctrinated since birth that the presence of a silent gun will inevitably lead to more shootings. Suppressed guns are really silent anyway. Truth is, you can shoot a 30.06 in the city and nobody pays much attention.

There is no good reason in the world that they are so expensive other than they are almost illegal.

Nonetheless, they're worth it. I wish I had bought one years ago and didn't have to listen to this constant ringing in my ears.

Do they only muffle/suppress/silence subsonic rounds or will they quiet "regular" rounds?

More effective at 'silencing' sub-sonic, but you can typically shoot both. You can search for videos and compare 300 blackout and 5.56 out of the same 30 cal. can. A supressed 6.5 creedmoor is fun.

They will make everything quieter. Not movie quiet, but quieter.

They make a supersonic .308 sound like .22 mag rifle. I still wear ear plugs while target shooting with supersonic stuff but I feel like I can get away without them for the infrequent shot while hunting. With subsonic, a 300 BLK sounds like slapping a couple short pieces of 2x4 together as hard as you can.

A suppressed sub sonic 22 is so quiet that I've farted louder than that.

they sell those in the ammo dept- 22 CB- no suppressor required. Pellet gun makes more noise- kills tree rats, cats, possums and coons just fine.

The bullet from my .22 with sub ammo makes more noise hitting the target than the report from the gun. The other side of that coin is that the bullet doesn't have much more energy or speed than a high end pellet rifle. Indeed, it sounds a lot like a pellet rifle.

And you can nearly watch them arc as they exit the barrel due to the low FPS.

    I'll keep my suppressor...
