Default DNR Suggests New Season Dates and Bag limits- Legislative report

In this paper you should be aware that the Webb Center is noted as South Carolinas premier management area for the Easter Wild Turkey to include proper plantings, proper prescribed fire to include intensity, return interval and timing, proper timber thinning and controlled hunting pressure.

Two points that should stand out to us all from this research are :

    1. Only 67 % of hens attempted to nest

    2. That only 13% of those produced poults that survived to 15 days.

It only took 3years to prove a point but at least it's proven scientifically. Now it's time for the legislature to step up
And do what's right for the future of turkey hunting.

Make it a 30 day season and bring back the 5 bird limit. Less total birds killed but the folks that can actually kill turkeys get to keep hunting for most of the season.

I'd make it one per person per day. No need in getting deuces.

Need to turn in 5 yotes or foxes or bobcats also 37 coons and opossum's before earning a turkey tag.

This right here. If you are a good hunter you should not have a problem with this.

60% of gobblers were harvested before April 9th (average nest start).

I agree with raybird. The numbers are pretty clear. Just need to do the right thing.

I don’t see how someone can look at that chart and want more turkeys, yet not trap.

(81%) of the unsuccessful nests being attributed to predation.

What in the hell did they think was going to happen once they started opening the season on March 20?

opening the season outside of the Lowcountry on March the 20th was not a biological suggestion made by DNR. Then again nor do I think DNR suggested raising the red fish limit in adjusting the slot either! Do you see a pattern here?

Thank goodness I’m not the only one, people want more but won’t put in the work to achieve it........people need to trap!!!!
