    Default dog- puncture wound

Our mountain cur came back from her morning run wounded- looks like a puncture wound into the skin outside the front shoulder blade on her front side- like she was gored head on by a buck, she is a deer runner if given the chance.
It doesn't appear to hurt her, minor bleeding, about a 3/8 entrance hole and not affecting her walking/ running.

I cleaned it and squirted Neosporin into it- anything else needed?
Same treatment I have given gored and snakebit dogs in the past and always worked fine- but this time it's my wife's dog, not one of my pack hounds.

My lab poked a hole in himself while hunting a beaver swamp when he was 2. Looked like a nickle slot. Ended up having a bit of hair and skin inside that I couldn't see. Glad I took him to the vet. I'm sure it could have gotten nasty. Better safe then sorry.

I had a woman bring in her dog to the ER when I was on clinics in vet school with a small puncture wound on the right flank. Turns out this chocolate lab lived in the country and had free run of the owners land. Well it also had a puncture wound on the other side- turns out dog got shot with a small caliber bullet, probably a .22. Lab was wagging his tail the entire time.

All I’m saying is it’s worth getting checked out if dog is not acting right or is not eating

    Pffff.

Checked out shmecked out. Pack it with gun powder and light it.

Then apply a mustard poultice with some poke weed berries.

Bury an egg in a left foot boot under the dogs favorite tree.

    Should be good to go.

    Hell yeah, real vetnerun medicine.
Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn't go so far as to call a dog filthy but they're definitely dirty. But, a dog's got personality. Personality goes a long way.

What kind of quack uses yella onions for a puncture wound?!?!

    Malpractice is what that is.

And a vet won't do anything but trade the service of treating the wound for money. It's a friggin racket.

Gun powder, poultice, egg, boot. [drop]

I don’t see them often but see occasional cases of dogs with tetanus. That’s some scary stuff right there. And it doesn’t respond to antitoxin nearly as well as you’d think it would. Bite the bullet and get it checked.

    Burnt motor oil.

I’m damn glad I read that twice. I thought your dog was trying to kill PJ’s 2 year old turkey....
