I have a new tract under contract and finally walked it for the first time today. What I thought was a small Carolina Bay turned out to be an old impoundment. The dikes are still solid but have become completely overgrown. The pond itself has a outfall pipe but no apparent way to control water level. I’m assuming it just fills with a pump when needed and water is left until it reaches the outfall height. The pond is maybe an acre and half and full of weeds and young trees both live and dead standing.
First and foremost is this salvageable? Assuming it has converted to wetlands which I’m guessing limits what can be done. Not sure if it’s worth messing with but wanted to get yalls thoughts nonetheless.
I’m planning about 15 acres of upland impoundments but would like to restore this if feasible. Thanks in advance for your thoughts/advice
