    Default Pit Blind Hunting

I am going to SE Missouri next week for my first duck hunting trip outside of SC. Really looking forward to it.

My plan is to shoot my Heavy Metal #3s. Is this good enough for shooting out of a pit blind? Never really hunted big ducks at all so don't have anything to base on.

    Thanks for the input.

All I know is pit blinds with the roll tops suck balls. By the time you get that heavy bastard rolled back the ducks are heading skyward.

Get there early and check to see if the blind is brushed in well. It probably isn't. If you want to kill a mallard or a pintail, make sure the blind is completely brushed in.

Last week I was hunting in Monroe, La out of a pit blind. About ten we decided to wrap it up. Me and a buddy have new pups so we were outside the blind throwing a bumper in the decoy spread to work the dogs a little bit. A hen mallard flew right over us and landed 20 yards in front of us. Some ducks are just crazy.

Don't be the asshole with a ported choke in a pit, or any blind for that matter.

What you talkin bout willis???? I've hunted in Pitt blinds before that weren't properly brushed in and the only ducks that would commit were teal, spoons, and gadwall. All the big birds would drop a little, do about half a circle and check out. The best hunting in a rice field is across the pond on the opposite side. If you have stale birds, you don't want to be in the pit.

Bad calling is a duck hunters worst enemy. Or let’s say too much calling.

Take 3 or 4 Advil and some ear plugs and you will enjoy it.

I can not overstate the importance of doing those two things. Your bell will get rung over and over and over.

What if I told you they were no more deadly than plain steel, but that they throw a more open pattern and you are just hitting more birds.....

Or a short barrel. I had a 25" I think on a 870 years ago when I hunted northeast LA, and my buddies hated me.

Delta in a nutshell: Breeding grounds + small wetlands + big blocks of grass cover + predator removal + nesting structures + enough money to do the job= plenty of ducks to keep everyone smiling!
