    Default Tis the season

Walked down to the dock and eased the jon boat off the slip to go scout this morning.

I was not surprised at all when I made it a few bends down the creek to discover 3-4 groups already camping out their spot on the bay. It absolutely Amazes me how long these people will stake out a hole just to shoot six to seven birds. (Most of them being wood ducks)

I continued to motor on by and made it to the area I hope to hunt on opening day, It is looking pretty damn good if I can get the hole early Saturday morning.

I hope everyone stays safe throughout this week and next, God bless.

They will earn everything they seek. 4 days of rain ahead.

No way anybody is camping on a hunting spot this early. I've never heard of anyone "guarding" a spot more than 24 hours before. They might need to call genus book of world records!

The 14 hours spent wallowing drunk in the mud could be spent behind the wheel getting you to where the ducks are to the north or west. Thankfully, everyone doesn't want to actually kill ducks or the boat ramps and farmers fields would be cluttered with SC licence plates...

People spend a week holding a hole. Don't kid yourself...

Talked to some folks from up here that took kids Saturday and people were already there holding spots. Didn’t have any kids with em, just holding spots so that people taking kids couldn’t hunt them.

    Now that's just wrong.

I wonder if these knuckleheads end up running off any ducks that would be using their hole while they're spending a few days "guarding" it.

Delta in a nutshell: Breeding grounds + small wetlands + big blocks of grass cover + predator removal + nesting structures + enough money to do the job= plenty of ducks to keep everyone smiling!

    Of course they do.
Folks have been “scouting” for 3 weeks now.
Be proactive about improving public waterfowl habitat in South Carolina. It's not going to happen by itself, and our help is needed. We have the potential to winter thousands of waterfowl on public grounds if we fight for it.

That's youth and a hellacious amount of wasted energy.

I have been messing around with public ducks since high school and would occasionally go spend A night, but it was just part of the experience more than anything else. I am toying with maybe spending Friday night on the river bank but not bc I feel like I have to to get a spot, more of an opening day tradition for me.

For the most part these days I don’t have the time or the energy to hold a spot for maybe getting to shoot at a couple birds. These days, Im with the others that would rather spend their time going somewhere that is way more productive and less competition.

You can get to your spot here in SC five days early but that doesnt stop the guys that roll in 10min before shooting light and set up next to you. Generally, not worth it to me.

I sleep in my boat a lot, but I do it so I don’t oversleep my alarm! Especially after a few days in a row of hunting! Ask Bog where I slept the one time we hunted together.

ETA: I love being out there. Nothing like sleeping next to an impoundment full of waterfowl making noise. I love it that much! A bonus is I get where I want to be.

This is gonna be the first opening day I've missed in a long time. For some crazy reason a Colonel somewhere decided we needed to fix airplanes this weekend.

I've seen them on Wednesday before the season, but Monday in the rain is super agressive.

I’m probably going to spend the night in a swamp or marsh Friday night for shits n giggles.....More out of paranoia than anything.

It’s been a couple years, but I don’t mind sleeping out in the woods or marsh.

I, like relentlous, get some damn good snoozing to the sound of roosting ducks with nothing but stars overhead.

Might make myself a little snooze nest Friday evening!

The line of Christmas tree lights are already started from packs to jacks.
