    Default 11/7/18 WTBD

Finally pulled the trigger on one Wednesday morning. I wasn’t overly optimistic as warm as it was, but you have got to go when you can go. Not much of a story. I saw a doe crossing the back of the skinny field I was looking down, at about 200yds. Picked up the binos as she was moving pretty steady but not running. She made it to the opposite tree line and disappeared. Scanning back to the right side there he was, nose down, hot on her trail. He picked his head up as i got the rifle up and he was trotting toward the tree line where she had gone. On my second yell, he stopped and I settled in quick and fired. He jumped left then ran straight out of the back of the field tail down.
It all happened really fast, and I was a bit unnerved when he took off, questioning myself on a hurried shot and questionable rest because my damn chair is comfy but too tall for the rail. Two more bucks came out immediately after, running the same doe apparently. One went over to the wood line right where my deer had entered and stared for a few seconds before continuing to chase their hot lady. I gave it a few minutes and got down to find good blood all in the field, and when I made the short 25yd walk to the tree line he was right there. Barely made it to the woods. I should have almost seen him fall but didn’t.
Only thing that would’ve been better was one of my little fellas with me. Hopefully next time!
.243 by the way . And i was wearing bottomland but not blue jeans unfortunately.

The blood in the first pic after a little drag is misleading, but it was perfectly right behind the shoulder. I usually like to pin them together broadside like he was or a neck shot with that particular rifle, but this was a quick shot. Prob was a few inches back of where I'd have liked is all. He went 25-30 yds.

    Very nice! Good work!
When it comes your time to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with the fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song and die like a hero going home. -Tecumseh-
