Default Dad's first for the season - he didn't look as wide on trail cam...

Dad is 80 years-old and normally has a deer or two by this time of year but just hadn't been seeing deer.

He carried a very immobile 86-year-old a couple of weeks ago. The older gentleman can't really even walk now so dad had to literally drive him to the foot of the stand. As luck would have it, the old guy killed a decent buck that slid down in to a deep ditch. Dad had to drag the deer out by himself then get it in the truck, with the processors closed or full, he had to skin and quarter the deer himself. He was whooped.

He killed his first of the season this evening. He's not even home yet but my nephew sent some photos...the deer is wider than he looked on trail cam...I'm glad my 6' 4" nephew was with him now I just hope the processors are taking deer again.

I got the story. The deer, 210 lbs 19½" spread, put the slip on him without giving him a shot so he blew the grunt call and kept the gun ready. He guessed it was 20 minutes and the deer sneaked back only showing his head and neck from the thick stuff. I guess he hadn't heard dad prefers a neck shot. Dropped in his tracks.

Nope. That's a pretty lightweight commercial climber (Summit, I think). He's hung the 45 lbs home-made behemoth in the garage and seldom uses it anymore. He's got two artificial knees and an artificial hip. It's the only remaining OEM hip that's giving him trouble, though, and slowing him down. It's not beyond reason to think he might get it replaced over the summer.

Way to go! If that group ever needs help I've told those fellas to call me, I am right down the rd, I know they can still do it but I'd be glad to fight one out of a ditch for them.
