Default Opinions on the Mossberg 590?

What's your take on the 'value and usefulness' of this shotgun...

I see it as a possible HD piece or something to keep in the truck/SUV. If nothing else, it's a lot less $ risk vs keeping a handgun or AR handy, unless you're always removing it when you get home.

The 590 is the only decent thing Mossberg makes. Well, the 590A1 is, not sure how similar it is to this. Value is good, for a toy. If it was all I had, I'd use it, is where it ranks on my usefulness scale.

On par with an 870.. Not sure about the “usefulness” of the shockwave design but if you’re breaching doors maybe so..??

I rather doubt I'll ever be breaching any doors. If I were to need to do so, I'm sure I'd upgrade to a 12 gauge and do it right.

Like I said above, my only thought was as something to keep in the truck. With the way our national politics are going, I don't plan on being unarmed anywhere I go and a 20 gauge is handier and more manageable than a 12 gauge with a 20" barrel and a pistol grip.

So, a 'toy'? I don't know about any of you, but I sure wouldn't want to be shot by a 20 gauge 'toy', particularly with buckshot or slug in it.

    Thanks.

Not useful unless you're going to knock over a ez mart. I've put a hogue pistol grip on a pump 870 18" barrel gun before. Was not useful. Ended up taking it off. Now it just sits in case I ever need it......

Don’t knock it till you try it.. lol. I understand your thinking on all accounts but there might be more appropriate tools for your application. A full or mid size pistol on you with an AR in the truck is hard to beat.

I've never used the pistol grips I have for two 12 gauge guns as I've never had a need.

I normally have a mid-size or compact handgun immediately available, but figured I wouldn't leave an AR in the truck unless I put a low cost one together (which may happen).

    Thanks for the feedback.

One I assemble using a bunch of extra parts downstairs plus whatever I’m missing. I would guess the total value might be around $350-$400 like Steelin’ says. My actual out of pocket for what I don’t have is probably fairly low.

Doubt you'll find one for less. I think the 20 would be manageable to shoot compared to the 12ga.

That was my original thought, although my brother in FL might find it handier for when those pesky pythons expand their range into his neighborhood.

The safety location gets me every time on those Mossberg shotguns.

If I were to ever need one, muscle memory from nearly 30 years with an 870 would kill me.
