    Default Ohio Rut Hunt 2018

Well, I'm about to board a plane for a two to three week trip to hunt the beautiful SE Ohio hills and woods during this usually magical time of the year. I guess this trip will provide some answers and info for the going-back-to-trad debate! Regardless, it will be nice sitting in a tree in some beautiful woods with high expectations for the next 15-18 days. I'll try to post pics and update as the hunt progresses. Good luck to everyone else getting out there and making memories. Red, saturated arrows and short blood trails to you all.

Good luck! We leave for our annual Kansas trip November 1st.

I've been sworn to secrecy, but let's just say it would make for a good episode of OPL OUTDOORS

Athens. First am at 0925 had a stud following a doe at 40 yards. My lock on that looked good 6 weeks ago was sore thumbing, and he knew something was different...blew at me 3 or 5 times...walked away and found a better vantage point about 60 yards through the woods to stare at me. He stared at me for 20 minutes while occasionally looking ahead where the doe went...and I didn’t budge except for the shaking legs and hands. Then I see the doe walking back toward me. She walks by at 25 and he thought love>death and started coming despite knowing something was different in “that tree.” He gets to about 35 and I’m not believing Im going to get an opportunity...trying to figure out when I can stand up. He gets behind some cover, and I look over to see if doe is where I can stand only to see a five pt coming toward her. I’m thinking he’s going to push them right to me, and she gives him a Barry Sandersesque juke and splits the gap between them and trots up the hill and takes them with her. I’ll post pics of him from last year...he was a beast last year, and he grew. There is another showing up on the cameras that’s bigger but won’t score as high. Weather has sucked, but I’ve had deer inside of 20 on a couple of occasions. Just need to keep dragging my ass out of this bed and figure out how to be as optimistic as I was a week ago. Come on weather!

My FIL lives near Middletown and said there was a beast with a doe yesterday morning in his horse pasture. I need to get my ass up there.
