I also have no doubt that it might be the first two weeks of October for you and the last two for me. For what it's worth I was at 301 this morning and asked Steve. He's seen more dead deer than you and I ever will. He said between now and November. In his words it was just starting to heat up good.

Generally the peak falls between Oct 24th and Halloween in most of SC.

From my observations this year the big bucks have gotten beat up very badly the last 3 weeks.

    these threads make me laugh.

son1 saw a nice buck three houses down from ours thursday at 5:15pm. that is pretty rare. sunday at 330pm, a buddy sent me a pic of a dandy ten point behind trenholm plaza area. sunday evening, a son of a guest "missed" a nice deer at 6pm.

that is enough evidence for me.

It varies across county lines for sure... We peak typically around Nov 11 according to fawn measurement data from necropsy. However, I measure fawns every year that are conceived earlier in October.
I am of the opinion that most of the older age class bucks die during observed pre-rut activity than actually full-rut but most individuals don't know the difference.

Not to mention that in areas without a significant presence of mature bucks, the breeding just trickles along...

They were rumbling pretty good the week before, but this past week they seemed to slow down a bit in Clarendon, based on cameras and AIS. I expect it to pick back up this week. Even Sumter county was a bit slow towards the end of the week.
