Default Where did the skeeters go?

I spent much of the day in the woods, the fields and swamps. To my surprise, there seemed to be far fewer mosquitoes than at any time since Florence came through. What could be the reason? Discuss.

I will admit I looked this up, I got curious as to what the threshold was for them. Apparently they prefer temps above 80 and the females completely shut down and hibernate at around 50. A wondering mind had to know.

Not the ones in Georgetown, bastards still eat you up around here. And 80 is BS, 63 this AM heading to the stand and the face net was down.
Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn't go so far as to call a dog filthy but they're definitely dirty. But, a dog's got personality. Personality goes a long way.

Still thick here in Cheraw. My thermacell went out last night with 20 mins of light left. It was bad. I'm sure I have some jungle disease now

Most have lived their life cycle. Places with warm temps and plenty of standing water are seeing the 2nd wave.

It did get into the 50s here for a few hours last night, but by 7:00 a.m. it was into the 60s. During the time I was "out and about" temps were low to mid-70s. Whatever the reason, it was a wonderful change!

So no need for a thermacell in the morning? I’ll heat it up just to be safe.

The first warmish day after a cool down is hell with mosquitos.

I see plenty of them, and they're pissed. I've always felt like the first little bit of chilly weather angers mosquitos and yellow jackets.

They know their time is limited for what they're here on earth for the " aggravation".

you realize a male mosquito lives like a week, right?

    I think that is important.

Checked trail cams yesterday, they really don't chew on me to bad usually. My back and shoulders were a solid blanket of mosquitoes for a couple of hours. Meh

I ran 25gal of bifenthrin mix across about 2.5 acres the other day. Needless to say, not a damned skeeter in sight.
