We are and have been hunting birds together a long time. Im glad he took the dog even though I couldn't go, the more birds that rascal gets to hunt the better.

Most ( some) dogs that get hit by Porkie remember how unpleasant it is.

My business partner had a Drathaar that we had to pull quills out of more than 3 times. she just couldn't not try to kill em. It was a two man job for sure. One holding that bitch down and one running a Leatherman tool. We made a long run to the only Vet open in Libby, MT one night when she had quills down her nasal cavity and through her tongue.

snip the ends of the quills before removing and it makes a lot easier on you and the dog

Been there, done that. Having to hold a 90 lb lab in a headlock and one person pulling quills ain't something I enjoyed doing.

We had quills in a setter one year. They were angled upwards in the dogs mouth and some went through her tongue. That certainly was a learned experience for a fella from South Carolina!

Dammit those things suck. Unfortunately it only makes some dogs hate them more...
