    Default 2017-18 season picture dump

Here's some pictures from last season; deer, ducks, turkeys. Like most of you, I'm counting the days til the first cold snap of October. Rutted up WTBD will help pass the time... but will not be completely myself again, without waders on, and my brown mutt beside me in my favorite duck hole. With an acquisition happening at work, and a 2-year old at home, this was probably the least amount of hunt-days I've ever had. Thankful, and blessed, to be able to spend the amount of time I did, with moderate success.

October 15th, hunting acorns, this guy blows through chasing a doe. I had a similar 8 point on camera...and I jumped the gun too early. Thankful Luke was there to reassure me that it was the biggest deer he'd ever seen...

November 2nd, same stand under the oaks. the buck I had on camera shows up. pushing does hard, directly under my stand. finally get a shot at 15 yards. Would have been happy to end deer season with this hunt

December 17th, m2field hooked me up with a small piece of property near home. After bow-hunting for the past 6 years (causally), I finally managed my first kill with a stick and string! Rattled him in using a set of horns my Dad gave me. Great hunt I will not forget. Much appreciated Bill!

2017-18 was the lowest duck numbers I've had since moving here to SC 5 years ago... We made 1 trip West. True to form, timing was poor, and we hardly killed any ducks. Did ok with geese, but none the less, another adventure

A few highlights back home. First mallard killed in the swamp I have worked hard on for the past 5 years. Rice did poor, learning curve has been tough, but I have high hopes for this season

Turkey season was tough for me this Spring. I heard plenty of gobbles on the limb. And every morning they'd flydown to their hens, and disappear for the rest of the day. I finally gave up trying to make them come to me, got in close, and called the hens.
I really, really wanted to limb whip this longbeard on the 2nd day of the season. I wouldn't kill him until the last week.

Joel came down and hunted with me. and he killed one of the twins that tortured for weeks in a cow posture. I have learned a lot from hunting with this NC hillbilly..

I also killed a stud jake that I called across a creek. It was just one of those mornings that something was going to die.

For the first time I traveled to hunt turkeys. lowcountrybuck invited me to go out West and hunt Merriams. I really needed a break, was glad to leave my stubburn-assed turkeys. I was quickly disappointed to learn that not everything I've heard about them true. We really had to work hard to kill every single bird. Not 1 bird did it right. With great effort, 4 birds would eventually die. It was a great experience and hope to redo it again soon
