    Default Power Outage Prep Tips

Looks more than likely that many of us will be losing primary power in the near future. Some, probably for days, others for weeks.

Please post up any tips or tricks that have worked for you in the past. Anything you wished that you had done but didn't etc...

    Propane tanks topped off? Check

    Generator fuel? Check

    Gas/oil for chainsaw? Check

    Headlamp batteries? Check

    Candles? Check

    Pet food/meds/etc? Check

You get the message. I am sure there are those who have never been through it. Try not having a way to keep your kid's phone charged for 2 weeks and let me know how that goes for you.

Shovel so your kid can bury your body? Check...

Make sure you have a big pot to heat plenty water. That is, if you have an electric water heater. I am not a fan of sitting in a bath tub, but when you don't have hot water from the tap, it will work. It is amazing how much better getting clean will make you feel.

Baby wipes. If you have a blackstone you can put a bunch of them on it to warm them up. It will feel like the steamed towels you get in first class.

Solar powered chargers for phones and electronics, as well as battery operated/handcranked radios.

This. Solar showers are great when it is all you have. I have bathed in a mountain lake in January after an ice storm. Well worth it to get clean...

That will work if you have no other options, but it doesn't compare to actually bathing.

When in doubt, shoot him again!

As many a man who served in the sand will attest, you take what you get...

I might keep my hair at inch and a quarter long, but I don't care to go anywhere until I get real suds through it.

Kodiak. I'm really not going anywhere without dip. My first time overseas I had a guy with me that thought it would be a good time to quit.. Silly booger quit for a day then followed me around like puppy. Being real close to being out, also in the Ecuadorian jungle.. the best the nearest port jungle town had was skoal cherry. Two times that candied ass stuff has left a bad impression on me.

Great point. You certainly don't want to be jonesing for whatever while you don't have electricity for a couple weeks...

Fill gallon freezer bags with water and fill the freezer with them. If you don't open the freezer it will stay cold enough to keep things frozen for a while.

Yes. If you feel that you may be incapable of operating a candle, please PM Labluvr for alternative solutions...

Yes I saw several housefires in my time due to those damn things. Might as will put your charcoal grill inside the house to stay warm as well. Maybe use your gas grill to. It's about as safe.
