    Default Jerk string idea

I came up with an idea tonight that I thought I'd share for a jerk string. I've come up with a few ways to be able to move my swivels along the line, none of which have I been happy with. Instead of tying in the swivel base to the mainline, I figured I'd try a prusik knot.

I started by tying several of these loops of decoy line with a snap-swivel on it. Each loop is ~11" line. You can add/remove as many snap-swivel loops to the mainline as desired, and can easily slide them depending on water depth and distance desired from the anchor/bungee.

I like it. I can't seem to even teach the morons I have hunted with the utility of a simple bowline. A Prusik? Forget about it...

Nice. Let us know how it works out for you...

Tell me about it. If you can't tie one blindfolded, I am not sure how you manage to operate a can of beer...

Not sure if these would work as a substitute or not for your purposes

I can tow a boat 20 miles on the MS river using a bowline and can tie and untie it blindfolded. One of the best knots ever invented.

I do like the prusik idea for a jerk string clip tho!

Listen to your elders. Not because they are always right but because they have more experiences of being wrong.

I think you’re going to find the Prusik great in principal, but lacking in function. Tension is what keeps the prusik tight and there will be plenty of time where there’s no tension and the knot will slide.

Also, for the knot geeks, if you don’t have the Grog Knots app on your phone then you are missing out. Great app.

No expert but I use jerk rigs every hunt for woodies. I've tried your idea with the prusik. Didn't hold. I ended up with two versions of jerk rigs and use both depending on the set up.
Version #1: 1.5lb anchor, 3-4' of bungie, swivel, 15' of pvc line, swivel then around 40' of decoy cord. Use the trot line clips shown in post above to place dekes where I want them on the pvc section. I use that on little pot holes, small open water spots.
Version #2: Same as above but decoy cord for the whole line, 4 swivel clips tied in at 6' intervals. Used in bigger opening water spots, ponds. The trot line clips won't hold on the decoy line, maybe on a larger size cord, not sure.

I also carry a couple small tea hooks and use them on the main line at the base of trees/stumps to direct the pull line to where I need it or to simply alter the direction I want the dekes to move. Set up right I can stand/sit against a tree and have the pull line at my right hip pocket so I don't have to move much to pull it. May be common knowledge with real duck hunters so pardon if it is all useless to mention.

good ideas Spur. I need to add some big swivels to mine. That should help keep kinks out of the line

    Update:

This system worked great today. For the loops I am using tarred decoy line, and it holds the mainline well. Made adjusting decoy location on the line quick and easy.

Seems the dogs always swim into the jerk string line.

This is true. It could be a champion dog and the duck could be in the exact opposite direction and that dog will swim right to the jerk string line every time somehow.

Use a trotline. Already has the a swivel every few feet. Zip tie the decoys to the swivels. Works like a champ.
