Remember to keep a close eye on your pups tomorrow. Its supposed to be hotter than hell!! Keep them watered good, keep them in the shade and close to a truck with the air conditioning. Absolutely no reason to accidentally kill your dog on opening day of dove season.

And don't even bother bringing your dog if it's not properly trained.

My dog and I chug a couple hot brews after riding to the field w windows up and heat on. Makes it feel good outside when you get out. A sombrero and green zinc and two packs of L and M red 100's #hothoundconditioning

There would be one dog per 10 dove fields if that's the case.

Picked up a lab from Rhett this morning. You think he's ready at 7 weeks?

I saw a guy's GSP fall out from heat exhaustion. It was scary to watch and he ignored the signs that led up to it. Likin to kilt his dog. Luckily he got in the shade and cooled off with plenty of water. Could've easily went the other way.

Delta in a nutshell: Breeding grounds + small wetlands + big blocks of grass cover + predator removal + nesting structures + enough money to do the job= plenty of ducks to keep everyone smiling!

Take a note from a dog hunter that lost one opening Saturday leave your labs at home! If you’ve never seen one over heat it’s not for the faint of heart. If you do “HAVE” to take your dog put some rubbing alcohol in your bucket to cool it’s pads when it over heats.

My GSP understood me when I asked him last night if he wanted to get a dove. He's been stuck to me like lycra ever since.

He's been running all summer at the farm and has learned to pace himself when it's too damn hot. I'll be prepared with umbrella, water, truck nearby, etc. and all the required precautions. If he couldn't go, I'm not sure I would. We're a team.

That is spot on. I feel the same way. It comes to it i don't mind letting him take a break and I go pick some up.

Mine has been in shape all summer working in the heat. That being said we stayed in the shade and made sure he had enough water to stay hydrated. Monday I left him in the car with the air on til about 6:00 or so due to the stand I was sitting. No dove is worth losing your dog.
