Default Thermostat Busted - Blue Liquid?

This happened to the thermostat. Any idea what is going on here? I'm guessing the battery was bad, overheated, caused the LCD screen to crack and the blue is from the LCD screen. But I truly have no idea - that is only a guess.

IMHO, the blue is simply from the reaction of the acid leaking outta the battery.

The small LCD (liquid crystal display) doesn't contain enough liquid to have leaked like that.

If the batteries have not hit he expiration date, send pictures and receipt for new thermostat to duracell and they will cut you a check.
