Default Farmers to get $4,700,000,000 tariff payout

    Not bad...

Agriculture Department Will Pay $4.7 Billion To Farmers Hit In Trade War
    August 28, 20188:21 AM ET

The Department of Agriculture will pay $4.7 billion to farmers growing soybeans, cotton and other products hit by tariffs in the Trump administration's hard-line trade war with China, announcing the first batch of payments from a $12 billion government aid package.

Starting next Tuesday, the agency will take applications from farmers who produce corn, cotton, dairy, hogs, sorghum, soybeans and wheat — products that were targeted in China's retaliatory tariffs, after the U.S. imposed a 25 percent levy on $34 billion worth of Chinese imports.

Most of the money — more than $3.6 billion — will go to soybean farmers.

Bean farmers will hit the jackpot. 2018 yield (by farm) multiplied by $1.65/bu will get expensive for Uncle Sam in a hurry.

There a is lots of lobbying going on for farmer welfare. There is a website, I can't remember off hand, where you can look up farmers in your area and how much govt subsidies they have received. It's appalling. There farmers are your local millionaires who definitely don't need it.

Says a guy with a pantry full of food while farmers are stuck with ever soaring input costs, tractors that are more expensive than Lamborghini's, and all that "free" land they are paying taxes to the government for the right to farm it...

There is great confusion about the term farmer. There are farmer -landowners, investors, etc, and farmer - the laborer, field had. Yes, there are a lot of laborers and hands that are poor, struggle, and may not have a pot to piss in. The farmer landowner, investor, is well off and has shitloads in assets. If he ever falls on hard times, he can liquidate his assists and retire on ocean front. The laborer does not have that luxury. And if the farmer must sell out, someone else will purchase his land and equipment and pick up where he left off. Because they farmers are the connected elite, they ensure they don't have to struggle when crops don't produce well, prices drop, etc by influencing politicians to provide agricultural welfare.

Who doesn't have rising input costs these days? And last I checked, farmers aren't legally obligated to purchase brand new equipment every chance they get.

We are growing a surplus of food. The government is paying for that surplus with our tax dollars instead of letting the market dictate actual needs. The cycle will continue. Farmers will plant more next year.

Seems to be the common theme these days. Justify a crappy decision/action by comparing it to another crappy decision/action.

But hey. At least it wasn't (insert politician here)'s decision/action.

This isn't the same 'ol .gov subsidizing all the risk out of farming. This is the .gov purchasing the Midwestern state's continued support while Trump plays trade war with China. I hope it's worth it.

Welfare plain and simple. Farmers have more programs and more ways to protect their lively hood and investment than almost any other business out there

At least it will hopefully be put back into our economy at some point instead of never seeing it again.

Yeah. That’s usually the goal with entitlements and welfare.

That’s the purpose of welfare. Buy voter support. Democrats have been playing this game for years.

Farmers buy more than crack and gold teeth.

How do you feel about government small business loans? Why don't folks just go to a bank?
