    Default Prop ?

I am currently running a alum prop on a 2014 Tohatsu 25 HP EFI 4 stroke. It is a 9.9 X 11. Wanting to go to a stainless prop. Am I correct in going to a 10 pitch ?

I was told by two shops to go down 1 for speed and 2 for load.

Lots of variables, but generally you pitch down for a steel prop. If the diameter is less than the aluminum though, I have found that you can stick with the same pitch and turn similar rpms. For example, I was using a 13 pitch aluminum solas on my 25, 9.9x13. Then I changed to a 9.25x13 yamaha weedless. It actually turns the smaller diameter stainless prop harder.

They're pretty fast if you don't have a jack plate.

You're shooting on the dark here. Look in the owner's manual and know what Tohatsu recommends that the rpm should be at wide open throttle. Then get a tiny tach or equivalent device that will tell you what rpm the motor is turning. If the prop rides good but your rpms are too low, go down in pitch to raise. If rpms are too high go up in pitch to deep the rpm within the range. If the prop doesn't ride good then you migth want to consider one with a different blade geometry, or different diameter.

Keep in mind you wanna run at the high end of your rpm range with an empty boat. That way when you add a load (fishing gear, cooler, rods/reels, etc) you'll still be within the recommended rpm range just towards the lower end of it.
