    i oft wonder why I....

    but here goes.
First off, I think there is an ocean fish known as a "perch" but I am not that familiar with it. Ergo, i dont recall ever seeing an ocean dwelling perch on a menu at a seafood place on the east coast.

As for the more common freshwater perch, I agree with our esteemed Canuck. The "yellow" perch is good bait that I am sure can also be good eating in the northern waters that tend to inhabit. A walleye is also in the same family, is it not?

So, tell us more about what kind of establishment is advertising "perch" on its menu....

(i'm still betting this dude's wide said "i like that perch. go make me some.")

Yellow perch are the same family a walleye and saugers. The bunch of them are some fine fish candy. I think white perch are in the same family as silver bass and striped bass.

Yellowfin would be thrown on the banks to rot when I was a kid, Lake Paul Wallace was full of them. In the north they are seen as a great eating fish. White perch in LA is crappie here.

You can catch boatloads below Hartwell damn in February. Spawning I guess. Some are good sized too. Excellent fried. Better than crappie and I like crappie. Called them Eisenhowers or redfins when I was a kid. Oh, back then we used to kill them too. The little ones are pure thieves.

Go to any grocery store in the up state and look in the sea food case and you will see frozen fish marked as "perch"

Perch are a fun fish to catch. haven't been in a long time but we used to fish for them on greenwood. We would jig for them with cotton Cordell and berry spoons.

Catching a fish and leaving them on the bank to rot is as low as trespassing to hunt or shooting at an unidentified target because it might be a deer.

    Pure white trash.
