    Default Grand Canyon Trip

I’ve got to head on to Vegas for a work trip and thinking about going out a day early with the wife to go see the Grand Canyon. Any recommendations on what to do in a short period of time?

We went last month and did the helicopter tour to West rim of Grand Canyon. Trip was good, but you don't enter the GC Natl Park. You fly into the portion of Grand Canyon that is under Indian tribal control. Same place as glass walkway. My wife had never been and it was highlight of trip to her. I have been to South and North rim and would prefer that to West rim. South rim is 5 hours by car from Vegas so that would make for a long day. All depends on how much time you have.

One day won't be nearly enough you need to allow a few days, trust me on that. The helicopter tour out of the south rim is awesome.

I have not been to the Grand Canyon. My understanding is that if you want to go into the canyon and hike to the bottom (not just see it from rim) in the National Park then you have to enter a lottery months in advance. So that that takes some planning unless you do a helo trip. Another option is to get a rental car for $100 and drive to Red Rock Canyon Park and Valley of the Fire Park. Red Rock is right outside of the city limits and Valley of Fire is around an hour or so away. Very scenic parks that you drive through and can do short hikes to see petroglyphs etc. Death Valley is also doable. I think it was around 3.5 hours drive each way but the drive is scenic as is Death Valley itself. Regardless where you go, buy a case of water.

Loved our trip there when my wife and I were driving cross country! We just spent a day driving through the park and stopping at various over looks. It was a great time with plenty of elk and other wildlife around.

Living in Moncks Corner but looking forward to moving back to the West Coast in 2020 where there are more ducks and less duck hunters!! LOL

Did the GC National Park this year. Flew with Maverick. Words can’t describe it. First time I have ever been. They told me the tours out of Vegas were a joke compared to where we went. First time in a chopper. Little eerie when you are flying a a little over treetops, then you drop over the rim and the bottom is over a mile down. I highly recommend them once in your life even though it’s a little pricey.
