    Default Plant ID

This plant is taking over my centipede. It appears to be a broadleaf. I have sprayed it with 2 4 D and also grass killer(post plus). Nothing has slowed it down yet.

    Any ideas?

A program approach works best. According to research trials , herbicides that contain the active ingredients 2,4-D, dicamba, mecoprop and carfentrazone (Speed Zone Southern, Weed Free Zone, Weed B Gon) have been effective in suppressing emerging perennial plants and killing the first flush of buttonweed seedlings when applied in spring.

Multiple applications throughout the summer will likely be needed after the initial spring applications. But, once temperatures exceed 85 degrees, herbicides containing 2,4-D cause too much injury to St. Augustinegrass and centipedegrass.

In the hot summertime, metsulfuron (MSM, Mansion) or Celsius herbicides should be applied. Always repeat metsulfuron or Celsius applications four to six weeks after the initial application. Both Celsius and metsulfuron have performed well in research trials, and these herbicides seem to be tolerated pretty well by St. Augustinegrass even in hot weather.

They call it Citadel Weed. Just deal with it, you won't be able to beat it.

Going to try Trimec Classic. The label says it will deal with it.

Tribute Total looks like the most effective killer, but it's $358.00 for 6 ozs.

Thanks, I saw that as a better alternative than Trimec, but couldn't find any local. If I don't get good results. I will try top order some.

Trimec is knocking it back pretty good.

Bringing the this back up. How did you do with this?

I’ve been using trimec southern and it has been good until the temps got up. I have new areas sprouting and not sure what to do with this heat.

    I have Bermuda BTW.

I switched to Celsius WG as Palmetto Pride suggested. It's doing a better job. I think the seeds sprout at different rates so plan on multiple applications.

Trimec was too tough on the centipede in the hot weather.

Copy. I’ll tey and grab some Wednesday.

It’s been turning my Bermuda a little but I’ve been easy on spraying on the coolest days and marking sure to top dress and water those spots to get them to survive.

    Clean out your inbox TJ.

I sprayed some yesterday. I'm mixing it on the strong side.....1 1/2 tea spoons to the gallon. I paid $122.00 for mine with shipping. It doesn't seem to be bothering any other plants except crab grass. You will need all on it to get rid of it. Everytime I kill it back, more sprouts up from seeds

I wanted to update this.. Celsius is the cats meow. I applied this in the middle of the day on July 4th and in 9 days saw a big dent in the buttonweed. On the 13th I applied early morning to my backyard and today again at 6 days I can see all buttonweed getting pushed back.

The front yard I have to push my Bermuda aside to find it wilted and struggling. Im going to hit it with a second application Sunday and I can imagine that will rid most of what was sprouted. Ill hit the new sprigs also while im at it.

    Celsius for the win.

    Thanks Catdaddy and Palmetto.
