    Default New Dash panel

The dash panels on the KW 186DC I just got had started to corrode making the paint was bubble and chip so I had three choices - 1) ignore , 2) strip, sand, prime and paint, or 3) replace.

I hate having anything on a boat that can corrode (other than sacrificial anodes...) so I decided to replace the panels with non-corrosive materials. Decorative Plastics makes a 3/16” PVC board specifically for boats. A 2' x 4' piece was only $75 delivered. They have a handful of pattern choices – I went with a burl wood pattern.

I still need to hit the edges with a grinder to straighten/smooth and bevel the edge just bit.

Before and after…I have only done the port console because I’m planning to re-arrange the gauges on the driver’s side but haven’t completely decided how just yet.

    Rubberhead,
Looks good. I also have a KW 186DC. Mine is a 2006. I really like it for striper fishing.
    What year make is yours?

Looks good. Lay the new one on top of the old one and bolt them together through the mounting holes and you can sand/grind them to a perfect match.

'05 with an '05 F150. I just got it to replace a KW 2020 Walk-Around. I wanted to downsize a little bit because the kids have moved out. It's a 13 year old boat so I planned on some serious repair/replace/upgrades. First thing I did was replace the 1-all-2 battery switch with a two-battery system...http://scducks.com/forum/showthread....ystem)-Upgrade

The last three "big" boats I've had were Key West boats - I've loved every one of them.

That's how I got them this close. I tried to use a Dremel tool but all it did was melt the PVC so I had to go old-school and use a coping saw so it wasn't a perfect clean/straight cut.

i bet there's a bur for the dremel that would shine that thing right up.

That’s cool. I just sold my KW 2300 and purchased an 05 186 dc myself. Mine has the f115 on it. Reviews are all over place as far as power for these boats. I’m not a speed demon so I’m sure the 115 will be fine for me. I found a one owner boat that lived in dry stack and only had 70 hours on it. I can’t wait to bring it home.

I don’t have mine yet, but I kept all my drift master stuff so that will be incorporated, a 24v ipilot will go on as well as a front casting pedestal and ski tow bar.

Can you find a router bit with the follower on it?

    Default 186 DC mods

My 186DC has a 150 Suzuki on it. I have owned the boat since new in 2006.
I have made a few modifications - and attached photos.
I made a bow filler out of 3/4 starboard and covered it with SeaDek.
I installed a vertical rod holder.
I put my 2 trolling motor batteries in the port console for the 80LB MK Ulterra Trolling Motor.

There was an 06 with a 150 zuke for sale over around florence a couple of weeks ago. I was a little late on it...found the next best one I believe. I like your vertical rod holder idea. Not sure if I'll do a filler piece up front or not.

I've thought about doing the "bow filler" and replacing the "front/back" seat with a pedestal.

I put a lot of thought into this because the boat just doesn't have a lot of room for a chartplotter/FF but ended up finding a Garmin Echomap 73sv (sideview sonar with lakes maps) in the Cabales bargain bin for $314. I am pretty pumped about bottom fishing using the sideview sonar. I already had a Bluechart Vision card that I can put in the big unit when in coastal waters.

I added a Garmin Echomap 44cv (coastal maps) from West Marine for $199 as a back-up. I have a Echomap 43cv (lake maps) that I used on my duck boat and used the Bluechart card when I was in coastal waters. Since the 44cv and 43cv use the same mount and transducer, I can pick either the 44cv or the 43cv depending on whether I'm in fresh or salt water on either boat.

Here's the current layout but it'll change once I decide what to do with the starboard dash...

Just for thought, the depth/fish/chart on the boat I just purchased is on the starboard side angled towards the helm. Not a bad set up really. Not sure if I’ll leave it that way or not.

You need a wide flute burr for aluminum. The one you got is for steel and will not clean out therefore melting the plastic.
