    Default LED garage lighting?

I bought a new house recently and the lighting in the garage consists of two 60 watt twisty bulbs.

Wanted to install some 8ft lights. I went to Lowes and Home Depot and noticed that LED lighting appears to be taking the place of T8 and T-12 lights.

Should I run with the LED? Anything I should know if I do get LED? I want it to be as bright as a standard bulb and if I can get more life out of the bulbs it seems like an easy decision. But LED may be crap in the shop light department for all I know.

    Thanks.

I replaced the 4 foot T8 lights in my garage with the equivalent sized all in one LED units. They are a drastic improvement.

We retro fitted the 8' flos with led kits in my 6k sq/ft shop. The LED is awesome. Bright, cooler, and obviously more efficient.

I will change my florescent at the house as they die.

If you get something in the 3500k range for color temperature you should be fine. Some of the bulbs around 6000k are just too intense.

Can you post a pic of your set up? I'm either going to do this or add LED strip lights. I'd like to see what they look like at dark with the lights on in a garage.

I just put (5) 4 ft LED Lithonia lights in my garage from HD.

I had the same 2 light bulb fixtures. I did them 35 inches apart. Garage is 27 x 21 and 12 ft tall, so the front half is where the lights are. They light the place up pretty good. 7B36044D-4DE8-4C3B-AC27-A9E4F4FBEECF.jpgB38D4EC4-5A5E-4919-ABF7-7E55643E30FF.jpg

I’ll get a night picture tomorrow for you.

Not to mention the lights from Costco are programmable in 25%, 50%, 75% & 100% output. Also, you can set them to turn off when there’s no motion for 10 minutes and then come on when they sense Motion. Perfect for a garage.

The only ones I see at Costco are the chain hangers that you plug into a wall socke. I reckon they must be out of the good ones.

This is actually the ones I have. I wired outlets on the trusses and ran them to switches at the two entry doors. You flip the switch and they all come on or off. 6 - 4’ LEDs were enough light for my 30x40 shop.

Billyjack where are you located? I'm in Charleston & I have some new 8' T-5 HO that I could sell for 25.00 each including the bulbs.

I have 1 of these in my garage with standard bulbs. Lit up like like an afternoon sun.

Waterbreaker, how many you do you have? I'm interested in them.
