    Default Rules of decoy carving

I'm sure there are a good bit of carvers on here, so I'm interested in what rules you have for carving. I'm going on a few years now, and only get to work at intermittent times. So far I only have two rules:

    1. Ducks don't have flat parts
    2. I can't carve worth a damn sober

What rules have you come across?
For anyone who doesn't carve and is looking to get into it, definitely check out workingdecoys.net. They are good people over that way. You sure as hell won't save a dime, quite the opposite. But when nothing's flying it's pretty cool looking at your birds, thinking "well at least my redheads look good".

Natty light. Worth more than gold in college towns. Good looking decoys.

Homer sold his decoy company, and workingdecoys.net is back online with the archives of info FYI. Any pics of the mergansers finished a few years later?

I was looking at finding some herters to do, but honestly might just put the money into carving. I think it'd maybe even be more satisfying knowing you've made the whole decoy from scratch. There's a website that seems to have everything you need. I think it's theduckblind.com but will check again later to confirm. Might start out with the cutouts they have first to get through the rest of the process and see how it goes.

I like the decoys, the cleanliness of the shop, and the Redneck Red Stripe.
