Y'all write me in, Mergie Master, I'm in Trumps corner, I agree with Constitutional Carry, I'll do away with state income tax and property taxes. I'll boost sales taxes to take up the slack. Any surplus left at the end of the fiscal year will be sent back to the taxpayers or their communities. A surplus means we were overtaxed. South Carolina's economy will explode!

I think I know enough about Jackpot to understand what you're saying, but would you mind giving a little more insight?

It's always been my understanding those guys were moving A LOT of weed and making A LOT of money illegally. Regardless of one's thoughts on the legality of weed, it was illegal at the time. The above statement makes it sound like they were doing nothing wrong. It seems comparable to saying a prosecutor threw a buddy in prison for driving while ignoring the fact the buddy had multiple DUIs.

That sounds great to those who fail to understand or acknowledge the inevitable economic cycles.

If all you have is a sales tax, everything goes to shit in a recession because there's no balance to even out the annual revenues.

I understand the idea, but that's only on the discretionary spending side. You still have the basic fixed/period costs that you want to maintain as they aren't easily replaced when revenue begins to flow again. The key is to keep the looters out of that part of the ledger as much as you can.

Go tell that to these states. They seem to do pretty good without it. The Texas economy is the 8th largest economy in the world and that's compared to countries. Taxes always hinder an economy.

No State Income Tax - Alaska, Florida, Nevada, South Dakota, Texas, Washington and Wyoming. And residents of New Hampshire and Tennessee

Now property tax - Arkansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Texas, and West Virginia

I don't have time to research it or build an analysis of historical revenue flows, etc, but don't each of the States you've listed have two of the three main categories of taxes, and possibly some specific ones most others don't?
